Patent Laws in Canada

The Canadian Patent Act is Canadian federal legislation, which is one of the main pieces of Canadian legislation governing patent law in Canada. It sets out the criteria for patentability, the process for obtaining a Canadian patent, and provides for the enforcement of Canadian patent rights.

Canadian patent law offers inventors with an opportunity to protect their "invention" in Canada by means of a Canadian patent. A Canadian patent provides the patent owner with the exclusive right to make, use and sell the patented invention in Canada throughout the life of the patent.
